14 major track competitions on Rekortan this summer
As the track season hots up in the Southern Hemisphere, Australia and New Zealand are no strangers to athletic dominance. With 14 of the 16 major track competitions in the region run on our tracks this summer, Rekortan is also a dominant player in the Australia and New Zealand athletics calendar.
Locally made and installed tracks lead the way
Our tracks are made by APT in Melbourne and installed by Polytan, the leading sports surface installation business in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Polytan have a long history in the region including installing surfaces for the Olympics, World Cups and Commonwealth Games.
Our latest Gel technology track systems are the greenest track systems in the world and have been installed in four venues in the region, including two major event stadiums this summer.
Rekortan Gel in Adelaide
The celebrated Adelaide Invitational is a World Athletics Continental Challenger event held at the SA Athletics Stadium. This year, it hosts the flagship National Championships, the top priority event for Australian athletes. Running from 11-19 April 2024 on a Rekortan Gel G13 track, The National Championships include junior age group and para events as well as the open age events. This meet is fundamental for aspiring Olympians as they prepare for the sport’s biggest stage in Paris 2024.

Rekortan Gel in Christchurch
The current New Zealand athletics scene is particularly strong with names like Tom Walsh, Eliza McCartney, George Beamish and Zoe Hobbs making their mark on the global track calendar, and the track season in NZ is a strong one. A stand out is The International Track Meet in Christchurch which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event. It is run on a Rekortan Gel G13 track which provides athletes with greater shock absorption and 58% energy return so they can perform with more ‘ping’.
Melbourne hosts a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event
The Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, the only World Athletics Continental Tour Gold level event in Oceania, is raced on a Rekortan M99 track system.
The 2023 meet saw more than 230 athletes from 15 countries compete in front of 6,000 fans. Highlights in 2023 included Commonwealth Champion Olli Hoare winning the John Landy Mile in 3:52.24 which was third fastest time by an Australian in Australia, and USA’s megastar Fred Kerley winning the 200m and wooing the crowd.
Fast tracks for Fiji
Beyond Australia and New Zealand, Fiji will host the Oceania International and Oceania Area Championships at the HFC Stadium in Suva. Rekortan M, the world’s most certified track, will be used for these meets in June which will include Championship age group, para and team events.
