The Most Diamond League Events are Run On Rekortan
8 WR and 18 DL Records recorded at the 2023 Wanda Diamond League
September marked the close of another extraordinary Wanda Diamond League season. Fittingly drawing to its conclusion in Eugene, the place so intertwined with the sport it is known as ‘Track Town, USA,’ the 2023 season tallied up a haul of 8 senior World Records and 18 Diamond League records.
Tsegay and Duplantis clinch records in Track Town
Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay claimed the Women’s 5000m World Record in the final event of the season in a time of 14:00.21 with Mondo Duplantis of Sweden waiting until the season’s final day to take the Men’s pole vault World Record with a jump of 6.23m.
WRs continue to fall for Crouser, Girma and Ingebrigsten
Los Angeles witnessed the World Record fall for the Men’s shot putt when home talent, Ryan Crouser threw 23.56m at the meeting in May. The following month, Lamecha Girma (ETH) clocked a World Record-breaking 7:52.11 in the Men’s 3000m steeplechase in Paris and Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigsten continued the long-distance record tally with a 4:43.13 World Record in the Men’s 2000m in Brussels in September.
Kipyegon steals the show in Florence
But one name stood out this season.
Faith Kipyegon of Kenya re-wrote the record books with an astonishing three World Records over the summer. On 2 June, she became the first ever woman to run 1500m in under 3:50 minutes in the standout performance of the season. Her time of 3:49.11, run on the Class 1 Rekortan track at the Stadio Luigi Ridolphi in Florence, saw the Olympic and World Champion take the title of fastest woman over 1500m from Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba, whose previous record of 3:50.07 has not been challenged in eight years. Kipyegon dominates the record books with a trio of WRs
But she didn’t stop there. A week later in Paris, Kipyegon took the Women’s 5000m World Record in 14:05.20 and completed her hattrick of WRs in Monaco on 21 July with a 4:07.64 finish in the Women’s mile.
Rekortan dominates Diamond League tracks and stadiums
The league started in 2010, and since then 57 Diamond League events have been run on Rekortan. Over the history of the Diamond League we have been trusted and chosen by 7 stadiums;
