Amsterdam Olympic Stadium
The Amsterdam Olympic Stadium, built in 1928 for the Summer Olympics, is one of the world’s most beautiful sports stadiums.
The stadium has a unique Art Deco style and was designed by architect Jan Wils, who won the Olympic Gold medal for architecture for his work on the stadium.
Architecturally the stadium belongs to the “Amsterdam School” – the famous Dutch style of classical modernism, also known as “Brick Expressionism”.
The Amsterdam School style was characterized by a combination of traditional and modern elements. Buildings often featured steeply pitched roofs, ornate brickwork, and decorative ironwork, as well as more modern features like large windows and open floor plans.
Today, numerous sports and cultural events take place at the stadium.

2016 European Athletics Championships on Rekortan
A Rekortan PUR ‘Class 1’ certificated track was installed by Polytan as the venue was upgraded for the 2016 European Athletics Championships.
The star of the championships was undoubtably the hometown hero, Dafne Schippers, who won the 100m. She crossed the line in 10.90 in cold and blustery conditions.
The Women’s 200m Gold went to Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) in 22.37. This was an early medal in what has been an outstanding career.
The Men’s 1500m produced a thrilling finish to a very slow race (800m in 2:10.43). On the back straight, one runner after another came through to challenge. The winner was Norway’s Filip Ingebrigtsen (3:46.65), who beat his brother Henrik, the 2012 European Champion, who finished third.
