Standout performances shine as speed and endurance take center stage
Australia’s top track and field athletes, including Paris 2024 Olympians, competed at the Adelaide Invitational on February 15, a key event in the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger series. Athletes raced for crucial ranking points and a coveted spot on the Australian national team for the World Athletics Championships.
The event showcased emerging Australian talents who delivered standout performances at the SA Athletics Stadium, which boasts the world’s greenest track, a Rekortan G13 track. Rekortan proudly became the Official Track Partner of Australian Athletics in 2024 and is the most certified track by World Athletics.

Women’s 800m showcases strength
One of the most electrifying races featured five women crushing the two-minute barrier in the 800m, highlighting Australia’s growing dominance in middle-distance running.
Headlined by Olympic semi-finalist Abbey Caldwell and the effortlessly smooth Bendere Oboya, the race also showcased strong contenders Sarah Billings, Georgia Griffith, and Carley Thomas, all of whom had a diverse mix of racing styles. Caldwell came out on top with a time of 2:01.84.

Thrilling showdown in men’s 800m
The three-time Olympian and former Australian national record holder in the men’s 800m, Peter Bol, was a key attraction at the Adelaide Invitation. Bol seemed to be in complete control of the race until challenged by 17-year-old Daniel Williams, who took the lead with 200m left to run. Bol’s trusted pacing allowed him to prevail in 1:46:40, with Williams finishing second, earning him a PB of 1:46.70.

The impressive results of the Adelaide Invitational were achieved on a Rekortan G13 track, which is made from 84% renewable and recycled materials.
