Rekortan track elevates performance at the biggest indoor track in China

Lintao Training Centre attracts professional teams with its geographical advantage, high-level training support and world-class Polytan track system

The Lintao Training Centre in Gansu Province, Northwest China sits at an average elevation of 1,900 meters. The vast indoor facility sports 7,000 square meters of Rekortan M track making it the biggest indoor track in China and the first national sports training base in Gansu Province. With its geographical advantage and state-of-the-art facilities, it is also the national sub-alpine sports training base for the China National Athletics team.

The high-altitude advantage

At an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level, the human body will make short-term physiological adjustments to make up for the drop in oxygen content in the air, and over time, these will become long-term physiological adaptations. Athletes returning from consistent high-altitude training have increased capacity to transport oxygen around the body which in turn gives them improved physical function.

Distance runners from the African plateau region have long been proof of the athletic performance benefits of high-altitude training. With a poster-height of 2,117 meters, the Lintao Training Centre, brings the same year-round training benefit to up-and-coming and elite track and field athletes in China.

Rekortan M track provides optimal athlete welfare, performance and longevity

The Rekortan M track system, available globally from Polytan and AstroTurf, was chosen for this high-level facility because, as the world’s most certified system, it is proven around the world.

The composite system, composed of an elastic shock-absorbing layer and an anti-skid top layer, works to balance athlete welfare and performance, and longevity of the track. After many years of use, the track maintains its impact absorption, giving athletes – and especially distance athletes - excellent cushioning for long-term training.

Famous Chinese athletes Liu Xiang and Su Bingtian produced remarkable performances on the same track at the ISTAF Indoor Championships in Dusseldorf.

Relying on the unique geographical and climatic conditions, as well as the high-level training support system and world-class track, the base is gradually gaining more and more professional sports teams.

A green technology first for China

Athletic performance wasn’t the only consideration for this impressive facility. The construction process also prioritised environmental performance with the incorporation of green technology.

Polytan’s innovative method of capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide gas and converting it into the raw material used as the binder for the elastic shock absorbing layer of the track was a considerable factor in the selection of the track system. It was the first time this technology, which captures harmful greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and converts them into useful materials, had been realised in China.

The ‘star effect’

The facility has a ‘star effect’, which is a proven ability to produce track stars. In just a few years, a number of star athletes such as 3,000 meter steeplechase runner Zhang Xinyan and fellow athletes Lu Yan and Li Xiaogang who have been stationed at the base for intensive training, have emerged in cycling, and track and field. They have gone on to win gold medals and compete at an Olympic and National level.

Cultivating a ‘cradle of champions’

Relying on the unique geographical and climatic conditions, as well as the high-level training support system and world-class track, the base is gradually gaining more and more professional sports teams.

In the past two years, the base has received the national track and field team, as well as the track and field, hockey, cycling, wushu, wrestling, judo and other sports teams from Shanghai, Liaoning, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Shaanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai, Xinjiang and other provinces. It has provided these elite squads with optimal preparation for competitions and provided high-quality sports services for nearly 1,000 athletes.

In accordance with the Gansu Province Sports Bureau's vision, the facility will continue to raise the bar for infrastructure, training support and internal management to create a first-class national sports training base, or "cradle of champions"!
