World Athletics Combined Tour Gold Level Event
The Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf Meeting.
Held in Ratingen, Germany, on a Class 2 certified Rekortan PUR track, the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf Meeting is an annual decathlon and heptathlon track and field meeting. This prestigious event is one of nine gold level events in the World Athletics Combined Events Tour. The tour is the top seasonal competition for decathletes and heptathletes, as combined events are not held for the Diamond League.
This year’s event (17-18 June) was particularly important with the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and the Paris 2024 Olympics just around the corner.
The heptathlon was an excellent competition. Carolin Schafer won for the third time, beating Sophie Weissenberg by 122 points, with Olympic bronze medallist Emma Oosterwegel (6209 points) in third.
Ireland’s Kate O'Connor and Austria’s 2019 world bronze medallist Verena Mayr, also surpassed 6000 points.
In the decathlon, Germany’s 2019 world champion, Niklas Kaul, achieved the Olympic qualifying standard with 8484 points to claim his first Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf Meeting decathlon victory. A total of seven decathletes surpassed 8000 points, with Jorge Urena in second and Rik Taam in third.

In such grueling competitions, the athletes don’t want to pound their bodies for two days on a track that has turned hard, or to get fatigued with tracks that are too soft.
The track was installed by Polytan, who renovated it in June in time for the Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf Meeting.
The work included the circular running track, the sprint lanes and the throwing areas. The track looks stunning with a mix of dark Hertha blue and light Skyblue.
