Polytan installs Rekortan track inside a volcano

2019 South East Asian Games, Philippines

The South East Asian Games, also known as the SEA Games is a major biennial multi-sport event involving athletes from over 11 countries.

The 2019 Games was the 30th edition and was hosted by the Philippines from 30 November to 11 December. The event featured almost 10,000 athletes and the track and field competition was held at the New Clark City Sports Hub in a 20,000 capacity stadium that is designed to look like a volcano.

The stadium has volcanic lava-coloured seats so when you look down on the stadium it is like looking inside the crater of nearby Mount Pinatubo.

World Athletics (IAAF) Class 1 Certification was required

E Sports International, Polytan’s track partner in the Philippines was awarded the contract to provide tracks and equipment for the stadium track, warm-up track and indoor training track.

As it was our responsibility to deliver a World Athletics (IAAF) Class 1 track we provided design services, project management and sign-off at key milestones to ensure compliance. The installation included the asphalt, track and line markings as well as installing all equipment.

A golden digital future

Both the stadium and warm up tracks are Rekortan M Systems which offer exceptional acceleration performance and enhanced tread elasticity.

The warm-up track has been installed with our Rekortan SMART timing gates. Rekortan SMART is the world’s only embedded athlete performance diagnostic system. SMART provides effortless and precise data thanks to the embedded timing gates which use magnet technology to connect with a sensor or smartphone carried by the runner.

The stadium has volcanic lava-coloured seats so when you look down on the stadium it is like looking inside the crater of nearby Mount Pinatubo.

A glittering history of major events

With 50 years of track history, the 2019 SEA Games continues Rekortan’s long association with major track events, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, Diamond League, Asian Games and Penn Relays.
